Dusty Skies: Gansu’s Cities Engulfed by Massive Sandstorm 🌫️

Hey there, adventure seekers! 🌍 If you were planning a trip to northwestern China this weekend, you might want to pack a dust mask! 😷 A gigantic cloud of yellow dust has swept over Gansu Province, turning day into a hazy twilight in cities like Jiuquan, Zhangye, Jinchang, and Wuwei.

On Saturday, the skies looked straight out of a sci-fi movie 🚀 as the sandstorm enveloped the region. China's national observatory renewed its yellow alert for sandstorms in parts of Gansu. For those keeping score, China uses a three-tier color-coded system for sandstorms: orange for the wildest ones 🟠, followed by yellow 🟡 and blue 🔵.

According to the Gansu Public Security Government Service Platform, as of 11 a.m. on April 13, some areas in Jiuquan and Zhangye were experiencing sandy and dusty weather, while others just had cloudy skies. The sand was so intense that temporary traffic controls were set up at toll station entrances along the G30 Lianhuo Expressway between Laosimiao and Linze. But don't worry, road trippers! 🛣️ By 1 p.m., the traffic controls were lifted, and things started getting back to normal.

This isn’t the first time Gansu has been hit by a sandstorm, and it probably won’t be the last. So, if you're in the area or planning to visit, keep an eye on those weather apps! 🌦️ And maybe swap your sunglasses for goggles just in case. 😉
