Good news for bird lovers! 🐦✨ Over 10 pairs of the endangered crested ibis have been spotted nesting and tending to their eggs in Tongchuan City, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
The breeding season kicked off in February, and these elegant birds are now busy preparing for their new arrivals. Local rangers are on high alert, keeping a watchful eye on each nest to ensure the ibises stay safe and sound. 📷👀
\"We wrap the tree trunks with plastic to stop snakes from climbing up,\" explained Wu Xiaolu, a dedicated member of the local wildlife protection station. \"Also, we kindly ask wildlife photographers not to gather and disturb the ibises.\"
Back in 2013, the city released 62 artificially bred crested ibises into the wild. Since then, the population has soared, with 202 ibises being born right there in Tongchuan! 🎉
Across Shaanxi Province, there are now over 7,700 crested ibises, according to the provincial forestry bureau. That's a huge win for conservation efforts and a hopeful sign for these once critically endangered birds. 🌿💚
