Birds Flock to Baiyangdian Lake: 276 Species Now Call Chinese Mainland Wetland Home

Hey, nature lovers! 🌿 Guess what's happening at Baiyangdian Lake, one of the Chinese mainland's major wetlands? An incredible 276 wild bird species have made it their home as of the end of February! 🐦✨

Since the establishment of the Xiongan New Area in 2017, where the lake is located, the number of bird species has soared by 70! That's a huge win for biodiversity and a treat for bird watchers. 📈🌏

Among these feathered friends, 12 species are under first-class national protection, like the rare Baer's pochard and the majestic great bustard. Plus, there are 48 species under second-class national protection, including the elegant whooper swan. 🦢🌟

Tian Yongchang, from the natural resources bureau of Anxin County in the Xiongan New Area, shared that nine avian habitats have been set up to give these birds the VIP treatment they deserve. They've also installed an intelligent habitat monitoring system and put up signage to keep the area bird-friendly. 🏞️🔍

So, next time you're in northern China, why not grab your binoculars and explore this avian paradise? It's a tweet-worthy adventure waiting for you! 🐤🗺️
