🌱 Ancient Andean Farming Hack: Waru Waru Returns to Fight Climate Change!

From the sky, they look like mysterious patterns etched into the land—circles that might make you think of alien artwork 👽. But on the Andean plateaus of Puno, these shapes are a revival of the ancient Waru Waru technique, a 2,000-year-old farming hack that's back in action to tackle climate change! 🌍

On the border between Peru and Bolivia, farmers are bringing back Waru Waru—\"ridge\" in the indigenous Quechua language—to protect their precious potato and quinoa crops. 🥔🌾

\"It's an agricultural system that lets us face climate change, which has changed the seasons of the year. It's very beneficial in times of drought and frost,\" says 42-year-old farmer Cesar Cutipa. 🌦️

Situated near the breathtaking Lake Titicaca at a staggering 3,812 meters above sea level, Puno's farmers have created six Waru Waru in flood-prone fields. These raised beds surrounded by water channels act like natural thermostats, shielding crops from extreme temperatures and weather swings. 🌡️

By blending ancient wisdom with modern challenges, these farmers are showing that sometimes, the best solutions are the ones our ancestors used. It's like the ultimate throwback, but for the planet! 💚🌱
