The folks in Canada's Atlantic coast are digging out from what meteorologists are calling a "historic" snowfall. Over the weekend, parts of Nova Scotia were buried under record-breaking amounts of snow, putting a freeze on transportation, closing schools, and shutting down businesses. 🌬️🚫
In Cape Breton, things got so intense that the Regional Municipality declared a local state of emergency! 😲 The main mission now? Clearing those roads for emergency vehicles. 🚑🚒 Schools are staying closed, and buses won't be running on Tuesday. Officials are even asking non-essential services to keep their doors shut until the roads are safe again.
Bob Robichaud, a meteorologist from Environment Canada, said areas around southeastern Cape Breton might have seen over 100 centimeters of snow! 🥶 That's like stacking 40 inches of snow on top of each other! "If we look at the entire event, from Friday until this morning, these are record quantities," he said.
Looks like winter came in like a wrecking ball (cue Miley Cyrus 🎤), leaving the east coast folks with some serious shoveling to do. Stay warm and safe out there! ❄️❤️
