Argentina's Los Alerces National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been hit by a massive fire that destroyed around 600 hectares of forest. 🌲🔥
Governor Ignacio Torres of Chubut Province confirmed that the blaze was a result of arson. \"We have confirmed that the fire originated intentionally,\" he stated after flying over the park to inspect the devastation.
\"Those responsible for starting the fire will have to answer to the courts,\" Torres emphasized, calling for \"exemplary measures\" against the perpetrators.
The governor suggested that the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM), a marginal indigenous group advocating against logging and claiming ancestral land, was behind the fire. In an earlier radio interview, he alleged that members of RAM started the blaze.
\"The problem is not indigenous people but these criminals who take land under false flags… I think it is time to put a definitive stop to it,\" Torres said.
Los Alerces National Park is renowned for its ancient alerce trees and pristine natural beauty, attracting adventurers and nature lovers from around the world. The loss is not just local but impacts global heritage.
As the authorities investigate, the community is rallying to support the park's recovery. It's a stark reminder of the importance of preserving our natural treasures for future generations. 🌎❤️
