🚨 Two National Guard members from West Virginia are in critical condition after a shooting just blocks from the White House on Wednesday afternoon.
The city's mayor described it as “targeted attack.” Police say a single suspect opened fire on the two soldiers. Nearby National Guard personnel heard the shots, rushed in to help and detained the shooter.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that 500 more National Guard troops have been deployed in Washington on orders from the Trump administration to bolster security. President Donald Trump, who was in Florida at the time, said the suspect is an Afghan national who entered the United States in September 2021.
Authorities are still investigating motives. Our thoughts are with the injured soldiers, their families and all those affected. 🙏 Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge.
