Imagine hearing more playful snorts in Shennongjia Forest or spotting finless porpoises leaping in the Yangtze thanks to a recent study, we now know that nature reserves in the Chinese mainland are staging a comeback! 🎉
In 2022, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment launched the first nationwide on-site evaluation of nature reserve protection. This November, they released the findings: from wildlife booms to bigger forests, the numbers are in green. 📈🌿
- Over 90% of reserves report population growth in key protected species 🐾
- More than 80% show increased biomass and carbon storage 💨
- Most forests and wetlands have expanded in coverage 🌾
Let’s zoom in: the Yangtze finless porpoise population rose from 192 to 269 individuals in three reserves across Anhui and Hubei provinces 🐬. And that golden snub-nosed monkey troop in Shennongjia? It jumped from 1,471 to 1,618 monkeys! 🐒
With nearly 99% of reserves showing strong conservation performance, it’s clear that dedicated protection efforts are paying off. From carbon sinks to vibrant wildlife, our natural treasures are healing and that’s a win for all of us. 🌎✨
