Yushu’s Vibrant Khampa Parade Lights Up Tibetan Heritage

On July 24, the streets of Yushu in Qinghai Province burst into life as the annual "Dashing Khampa People" cultural parade took center stage. Nearly 2,500 performers from Yushu and Nagqu in the Xizang Autonomous Region celebrated Tibetan intangible heritage in a dazzling display.

The parade showcased eight captivating elements—from incredible horseback skills and traditional dance to colorful local costumes, Tibetan opera, and dynamic folk sports. Each performance was a tribute to Khampa Tibetan traditions, lighting up the day with energy and a vibrant mix of art and culture.

Yushu, a historic crossroads located at the source of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers, was designated a Tibetan cultural ecological protection experimental zone in 2017. This special status reinforces its long-standing role in preserving and promoting Tibetan heritage.

The event felt like a real-life festival—full of excitement, community spirit, and a touch of magic that reminds us that ancient traditions still resonate today. 🎉 Whether you’re into culture, art, or simply great storytelling, the Khampa parade is a celebration of heritage that bridges the past with modern vibrancy.
