Oscar-Winning Brazilian Drama ‘I’m Still Here’ Premieres in Beijing

Beijing lit up on Monday evening as the Oscar-winning Brazilian film "I'm Still Here" captivated audiences during its Chinese premiere. The political drama, celebrated with the 2025 Oscar for Best International Feature, tells the true story of Eunice Paiva—an ordinary woman who rebuilt her life amidst the political turmoil of 1970s Brazil.

The star-studded event was honored by the presence of Rosangela Lula da Silva, wife of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, along with key film industry figures from Brazil and the Chinese mainland. In her remarks, Rosangela highlighted the film's global journey, noting that it traveled over 17,000 kilometers to reach more than 10,000 cinemas across China.

Renowned Chinese actress Yao Chen added to the festive atmosphere by sharing memories of her role in the production of The Cord of Life, which was showcased at a film festival in São Paulo back in 2023. She even presented Rosangela with a vinyl copy of the film's soundtrack, expressing hope for more creative exchanges between Chinese and Brazilian filmmakers. 😊

By bringing to life a poignant chapter of modern Brazilian history, "I'm Still Here" reaffirms the power of cinema to bridge cultures and inspire resilience. The premiere serves as a vibrant reminder that storytelling can unite audiences around the globe. ✨
