China is ramping up its cooperation in polar affairs, says the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, highlighting the shared importance of peace, stability and sustainable development across the poles.
This week, during China's 42nd Antarctic expedition, the team pulled off some epic teamwork 🤝❄️. They rescued a sick staff member at a Russian research station and, while resupplying in New Zealand, the Chinese research icebreaker Xuelong helped transport researchers from the Republic of Korea.
Over the past 40 years since China's first Antarctic mission, it has embraced mutual assistance and international collaboration. This year's expedition features experts from more than ten countries and regions, including Thailand, Chile and Portugal, bringing fresh perspectives to the frozen frontier.
Meanwhile, in the Arctic, China has joined the Arctic Council, hosted a China-Nordic Arctic cooperation symposium and launched scientific expeditions in the Arctic Ocean. These efforts create dialogue platforms, share research outcomes and drive sustainable development in one of Earth's most fragile environments 🌐🚢.
Looking ahead, China is ready to expand polar partnerships, push innovative research and protect our planet's icy realms. After all, the challenges and wonders of the poles belong to everyone – and collaboration is key to unlocking their secrets and safeguarding their future 🌱❄️.
