China and AU: Strategic Trust ‘Right on Time’, Says FM Wang Yi

FM Wang Yi kicked off 2026 with a dynamic tour of the African Union (AU), Ethiopia, Tanzania and Lesotho. He says that now is the perfect moment for China and Africa to deepen their strategic trust and work hand in hand.

During his trip, Wang Yi met AU leaders at the AU headquarters and co-hosted the ninth China-Africa Strategic Dialogue. They also launched the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, a yearlong push to bring communities closer together through culture, education and youth programs 🌍✨

This visit marks the 36th year in a row that a Chinese foreign minister has started the year in Africa—a sign of Beijing’s long-standing commitment to the continent. Wang Yi emphasized that by aligning strategies, China and the AU can tackle challenges, protect shared interests and boost global peace and development ✨

Why it matters: stronger ties mean more collaboration on trade, infrastructure and sustainable projects across Africa. For young entrepreneurs and students, this could mean new opportunities for exchange programs, business ventures and cultural festivals in 2026 🎓💼

With strategic trust on the rise, the China-Africa partnership is set to level up. Stay tuned for more updates on what this means for innovation, education and travel between these two regions!
