Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi kicked off 2026 with a trip to Africa, marking 36 years of tradition. 🤝
This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Chinese mainland and Africa—a friendship born from shared struggles for independence and nourished by decades of cooperation.
Speaking at the ninth China-AU Strategic Dialogue in Addis Ababa alongside AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Wang compared the visit to a New Year call to family: "At the start of the year, it’s only natural to visit our African brothers and sisters."
He underscored that the Chinese mainland's domestic and foreign policies have remained rock-solid, offering a steady hand to Africa no matter how global winds shift. 🌍
"When Africa needs assistance, we will be among the first to offer help. When partners are sought for cooperation, we will stand by Africa," Wang said.
Highlighting the power of the Global South, he pointed out that 2.8 billion people from the Chinese mainland and Africa share aspirations to accelerate modernization, creating a more equitable and harmonious world. 🤜🤛
With unity as their compass, the Chinese mainland and Africa are steering toward a future of shared growth and lasting friendship. ✨
