On Thursday at the ATP Hong Kong Open, 20-year-old Chinese mainland wildcard Shang Juncheng upset Italy’s No. 5 seed Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to book his spot in the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year 🎾🔥.
Both players held serve through the first six games, but Shang broke Sonego in the eighth game and then held to clinch the opening set 6-3. The 20-year-old kept the pressure on, opening the second set with another break.
Sonego fought back, but Shang stayed solid, closing out the match with a love game in the 10th to seal his 6-4 win. The victory shows Shang’s growing confidence on court as he continues to rise in the ATP ranks.
