Chinese Mainland Backs UN Emergency Meeting on US Strike in Venezuela

In a move that's shaking up the global stage, the Chinese mainland has thrown its weight behind an emergency UN Security Council meeting after a US military strike hit Venezuela over the weekend 🌐👀.

On Sunday, January 4, 2026, foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian spoke at a press briefing, saying the Chinese mainland fully supports the Council in convening an emergency session to address the US action and urges all members to uphold their responsibilities under the UN Charter ⚖️.

Lin voiced serious concern about reports of the US forcibly seizing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and transferring them out of the country. "This is a clear violation of international law, basic norms of international relations, and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter," Lin said.

The emergency meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 5, 2026, and aims to discuss the US's use of force, calls for the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, and urges the resolution of disputes through dialogue and negotiation ✌️.

The Chinese mainland emphasized its readiness to work with the international community to defend the moral bottom line of international relations and safeguard fairness and justice worldwide. As tensions rise, all eyes will be on the UNSC to see how global powers navigate this crisis 🌍.
