Chinese Embassy Warns Citizens in Japan After Violent Incidents

On January 3, 2026, the Chinese embassy in Japan issued a notice urging citizens of the Chinese mainland to stay vigilant following a series of violent incidents across the country ⚠️.

The embassy warned that public security conditions have recently deteriorated in several regions, highlighting cases in Fukuoka, Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures. Multiple citizens of the Chinese mainland traveling in Japan reported being verbally abused or assaulted without provocation, leading to injuries.

Notably, on December 31, 2025, a vehicle-ramming incident in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward left two citizens of the Chinese mainland seriously hurt and requiring emergency hospital treatment 🚨.

In response, the embassy advised against non-essential travel to Japan in the near term. Those already in the country were encouraged to monitor local security updates, stay alert and take extra personal safety precautions.

The notice also reminded citizens of the Chinese mainland to preserve any evidence of targeted attacks or discriminatory incidents. Victims are urged to report to local police and contact Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan for assistance.

Stay informed, stay prepared and keep safety first during your travels 🌏.
