UN Alarmed Over US Attack on Caracas and Removal of Maduro

This Saturday morning (Jan. 3) the United States launched a military operation in Caracas, detaining and removing President Nicolás Maduro. The move marks a sharp turn in the months-long standoff between Washington and Caracas.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he is "deeply alarmed" by the escalation, warning of "potential worrying implications for the region." UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric added that, "independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent."

Guterres called on all parties to respect international law and the UN Charter, urging "inclusive dialogue" grounded in human rights and legal norms. He emphasized the importance of peaceful solutions over unilateral military action.

As Latin America watches closely, experts caution that this episode could reshape regional stability. For now, the UN is pushing for calm and conversation to avoid further escalation. 🤝🌎
