Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on Friday that the country will continue revealing war crimes committed by Japanese militarists during World War II and pushing for their prosecution.
The announcement, published on the Russian Foreign Ministry website, included a new list of 20 Japanese citizens deemed responsible for sabotage, espionage and even human experimentation.
Between April and November 2025, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office annulled several "rehabilitation" decisions from the 1980s to 2000s for individuals who had carried out covert operations against the Soviet Union during the war and after Japan's surrender in 1945.
- Some organized intelligence missions after surrendering to the Soviet Red Army to gather data on Soviet forces 🕵️♂️
- Others trained saboteurs along border areas adjacent to the Soviet Union
- Several took part in the notorious human experiments conducted by Unit 731 🧪
Zakharova stressed that there is no statute of limitations on these atrocities and that Russia will keep making the evidence public to ensure accountability.
