Xi’s 2026 New Year Message: Chinese Mainland Opens Arms to Global Cooperation

🎉 Today, on December 31, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping shared his annual New Year message on the eve of 2026, highlighting how the Chinese mainland continues to embrace the world with open arms. He emphasized the mainland’s commitment to global peace, development, and win-win cooperation.

Embracing the world with open arms 🌏

This year, amid heightened uncertainties, the Chinese mainland prioritized dialogue and actively shaped global governance. One highlight was the launch of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). Think of it as a worldwide team-up rooted in consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits. GGI offers a roadmap for nations to strengthen coordination and make global governance fairer.

Guided by the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Chinese mainland set ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions for 2035 and proposed a Global Clean Energy Cooperation Partnership. These steps demonstrate its resolve to tackle climate change and protect our planet.

On the multilateral front, the mainland boosted support for the United Nations by increasing investment in the China-UN Peace and Development Fund. Together with over 30 partners, it also helped establish the International Organization for Mediation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, strengthening peace through the rule of law.

In 2025, the mainland hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, deepening partnerships built on equality, openness, and cooperation.

Shared opportunities 🚀

As the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) wrapped up, the Chinese mainland reached new heights in economic strength, tech innovation, and overall national power. It bolstered economic resilience, achieved major scientific breakthroughs, and delivered real improvements in people’s livelihoods.

Innovation took center stage: the number of AI enterprises surpassed 4,500, fueling the AI Plus strategic initiative across manufacturing, finance, and healthcare. From large-scale AI models to humanoid robots working in factories and logistics, the mainland is laying the foundation for a multi-trillion-yuan future industry.

These advances aren’t just good news at home—they’re boosting the global economy. The Chinese mainland’s BeiDou navigation services now cover over 140 countries and regions, aiding disaster warnings, transport, and agriculture. For example, the Chinese mainland-Brazil Science and Technology Innovation Center has brought clean energy to remote communities, while tech-sharing projects in Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt have helped tackle desertification and water scarcity.

Looking ahead, 2026 launches the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030). President Xi urged the nation to take solid steps to promote high-quality development, deepen reform and opening up, and write a new chapter in its modernization journey. The sequel promises even more action!
