Chinese Mainland Spokesperson Says DPP’s ‘De-Sinicization’ Efforts Are Doomed

The Chinese mainland’s spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Han, fired back at the DPP authorities’ recent push for 'de-sinicization,' calling their secessionist-tinged political maneuvers 'doomed to fail.' It happened at a press conference this Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Her remarks followed comments by Kuomintang leader Cheng Li-wun, who told Taiwan university students that saying 'I am Chinese' in Taiwan nowadays feels like an 'original sin' thanks to what she called three decades of the DPP authorities’ political scheming.

Zhang emphasized that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a common heritage. She said this is a historical fact, a cultural consensus, a genetic inheritance and a legal reality that no one can deny.

She warned that the DPP authorities’ efforts to twist history, mislead the public and reshape the identity of residents of Taiwan’s younger generation are causing incalculable harm. Voices of condemnation have been pouring in from all corners of Taiwan society, Zhang noted, making it clear these moves can’t succeed.

On top of that, recent polls reveal Taiwan people are growing frustrated with the DPP authorities’ performance. Over half of respondents said the party is untrustworthy, lacks governing capability and isn’t clean. 😕

Zhang blamed the DPP authorities’ 'obstinate pursuit of Taiwan independence provocations,' political infighting, suppression of dissidents and cozying up to foreign forces for ignoring people’s interests and pushing the island toward crisis. She also pointed to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te’s policies—such as buying more arms at the expense of social welfare and alleged corruption—as proof the DPP authorities are out of touch with the public.

In closing, the spokesperson urged Taiwan compatriots to see through what she called the DPP authorities’ 'vile nature' and draw a clear line from separatist forces and their activities across the Taiwan Strait.
