Chinese mainland Reaches Second Tier in Global Manufacturing Power Index

On December 30, 2025, the Strategic Consulting Center of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and partner agencies released the 2025 China Manufacturing Power Development Index Report in Beijing.

The report shows that the Chinese mainland’s manufacturing power index has climbed to match Germany and Japan, placing it in the second global tier of manufacturing powers. This annual index, published since 2015, tracks progress in scale, quality, innovation and green development.

In 2024, the Chinese mainland advanced steadily under pressure, moving toward more innovative and higher-quality production. The added value of manufacturing in the Chinese mainland accounted for 27.71% of the world’s total, maintaining its lead since becoming the world’s largest manufacturing economy in 2010.

The report highlights upgrades across multiple dimensions. Industrial structure is shifting toward high-end, intelligent and green orientation. Academician Lyu Junfu of the CAE noted that the Chinese mainland has built the world’s largest clean-coal power system and the most advanced ultra-high-voltage AC and DC power grid. New energy equipment, along with energy-saving and energy-storage devices, are experiencing rapid growth. 🌱🔋⚡

Looking ahead, the Chinese mainland will focus on coordinated improvements in quality and efficiency, structural optimization, innovative development and enhanced sustainable capacity. For young professionals and entrepreneurs, this evolution signals fresh opportunities in green tech, smart manufacturing and beyond. 🚀
