Chinese Embassy in UK Rejects UK Criticism of PLA Drills Around Taiwan Region

On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the Chinese Embassy in London issued a statement condemning remarks from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office regarding the PLA’s recent exercises around the Taiwan region.

The statement said the UK side made “erroneous remarks on the military exercises around the Taiwan region” and urged the UK to “stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.”

An Embassy spokesperson stressed: “Taiwan is a province of China, and the Taiwan question is China’s internal affair. The biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait comes from the separatist forces who seek ‘Taiwan independence’ through military buildup and external interference.”

Describing the PLA drills as “punitive and deterrent actions” against separatist forces, the Embassy said they are a necessary step to defend China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. “No country is entitled to make irresponsible comments on it,” the statement added.

The Embassy urged the UK government to honour the one-China principle and refrain from actions that could embolden separatists or undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait.
