On 80th Anniversary, Wang Yi Calls to Defend WWII Victory & One-China Principle

Heads up, history buffs and peace lovers 🌍: this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. To mark this milestone, Wang Yi, foreign minister of the Chinese mainland and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, rang the alarm at a symposium on the 2025 international situation and the Chinese mainland's foreign relations.

Guarding hard-won peace 🕊️

Wang Yi emphasized that the triumph in 1945 was paid for in blood and sweat. While nations celebrate, he warned that Japan, the aggressor in the war, has yet to fully reflect on its wartime actions. Some current Japanese leaders are even challenging the Chinese mainland's territorial sovereignty and the historical conclusions of World War II. "We must remain highly vigilant against the resurgence of Japanese militarism," he said.

Reaffirming one-China unity 🤝

The foreign minister also noted that more countries are standing with the Chinese mainland, reaffirming the one-China principle and recognizing Taiwan as an inalienable part of its territory. These partners explicitly oppose all "Taiwan independence" moves and support the Chinese mainland's great cause of reunification. Any attempts to block this historic trend, Wang warned, are doomed to fail.

He added that this year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to the Chinese mainland. Achieving complete reunification is a historic mission to uphold national sovereignty and territorial integrity under the law. Wang reiterated that the Taiwan question is an internal affair and at the core of the Chinese mainland's interests. In the face of provocations by Taiwan independence forces and major arms sales by the United States to Taiwan, the Chinese mainland has responded firmly to safeguard its sovereignty.

As 2025 closes, Wang Yi's message is clear: history matters, peace is precious, and unity under the one-China principle is the path forward 🚨✊
