Beijing Urges Global Unity to Contain Japan’s Militarism Revival

On Thursday, the Chinese mainland’s defense ministry raised the alarm about a “dangerous revival of militarism” in Japan, inviting all peace-loving nations and peoples to join forces to push back. 🚨

Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang responded to recent comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and another official hinting at nuclear armament. Meanwhile, a report from Japan’s Ministry of Defense slammed the Chinese mainland’s “rapidly growing defense spending” and announced plans to deploy mobile radar in Okinawa by 2026 to monitor military activities.

Zhang objected to these claims, noting that the Chinese mainland’s defense expenditure remains reasonable, moderate, and below the global average as a share of GDP. He emphasized that operations in regional waters fully comply with international law and practice—and will not tolerate interference. ⚖️

Warning that Japan’s right-wing forces are speeding up remilitarization, Zhang called these moves a challenge to international justice, the post-WWII order, and the global non-proliferation regime. He urged Japan to stop spreading false narratives and threatened “resolute countermeasures” against any provocations.

“We call upon all peace-loving nations and peoples to take action,” Zhang said. “Let’s prevent the world from sliding into turmoil or reliving tragedies of the past.” 🌍✌️

As tensions simmer, watchers from Tokyo to Taipei to Washington are keeping an eye on whether this call for unity can shape Asia’s future. 👀
