HKSAR Govt Launches HK$4B Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court Fire Survivors

In response to the recent major fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has established a comprehensive support fund that has reached HK$4 billion (around USD 514 million) as of December 20. This fund aims to help residents rebuild their homes and provide long-term assistance for their recovery.

According to the HKSAR government:

  • Temporary Accommodation: 581 residents are staying in hotel rooms, coordinated by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau.
  • Youth Hostels & Camps: 559 residents have been placed in youth hostels or camps.
  • Transitional Housing: 3,513 residents are in transitional units provided by the Housing Bureau, the Hong Kong Housing Society, and an interim site in Tuen Mun.

The death toll from the fire has reached 161, and authorities are still identifying victims through DNA testing to bring closure to families. The HKSAR government says it will continue providing sustained support until all survivors are back on their feet.

Whether you’re a news enthusiast, investor, student, or traveler planning a visit to Tai Po, this relief effort highlights the resilience and solidarity of the community as it rebuilds. 😊
