Earlier today around 5:30 p.m., tragedy struck at Taipei Main Station 🚇 in the Taiwan region. A knife-wielding suspect wearing a gas mask threw smoke bombs and launched a brutal attack on bystanders. The chaos left four people dead, including the attacker, and five others injured.
CCTV footage shows the suspect tossing smoke bombs into the crowded metro hall, causing at least one person to suffer smoke inhalation. He then stabbed a passenger, who later succumbed to severe injuries, local media reported.
The attacker fled to a nearby business district and targeted more residents of Taiwan in a random rampage. In total, five people were hurt; one succumbed to serious wounds in hospital, bringing the death toll to four.
Taiwan authorities identified the suspect as a 27-year-old man. Surrounded by police on the rooftop of a department store, he fell to his death before he could be detained. Investigators are still probing the motive behind the attack.
