Scholars Celebrate Macao’s Role in Global Cultural Exchange

On Tuesday, more than 50 scholars, experts, and government representatives from nearly 10 countries gathered in Macao SAR for the opening of the International Forum on Mutual Learning Among Civilizations 2025. This global event kicked off with inspiring speeches that spotlighted Macao's centuries-old magic as a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures 🌏✨.

Wu Zhiliang, president of the Committee of Administration of the Macao Foundation, walked us through Macao's journey since it opened as a port in the mid-16th century. Instead of conquest, he said, Macao saw a daily blend of traditions: "Our city became an ongoing experiment in mutual understanding and adaptation."

Then Zheng Yongnian, dean of the School of Public Policy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen and president of the Institute for International Affairs, Qianhai, shared his insights on modernization. He stressed that true progress comes from aligning development with a nation's own culture and needs, not just importing foreign models. Zheng highlighted two pillars of the Chinese mainland's modern journey:

  • Embracing global connections while staying true to its development path 🤝
  • Fostering international cooperation and sharing growth experiences 🌍

By blending self-confidence with open collaboration, he said, countries can build a community with a shared future for mankind. Macao's history, in this light, isn't just a story—it's a blueprint for global partnerships and peaceful coexistence.

Young professionals, students, and culture enthusiasts tuning in are getting fresh inspiration on how to navigate our interconnected world. And for travelers dreaming of their next adventure, Macao's historic streets and fusion flavors await your discovery! 🍲🏯
