Today, on December 15, 2025, the Chinese mainland’s 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games wrapped up in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province 🎉. State Councilor Shen Yiqin officially closed the events, marking a milestone for inclusive sports in the country.
For the first time ever, these two major competitions were co-hosted across the three regions of the Guangdong-Hong-Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It was also only the second time they coincided with the National Games in the same city and year 🚀.
From December 8 to 15, 7,824 athletes from 34 delegations competed in 46 sports. The results? A jaw-dropping 15 world records and 156 national records smashed 📈🏅. Talk about raising the bar!
Chang Zheng, deputy director of the organizing committee, highlighted how the Games have showcased the Chinese mainland’s achievements in sports for people with disabilities. He added that this success paves the way for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games 🌏🏋️.
Looking ahead, Hunan Province is gearing up to host the 13th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 10th National Special Olympic Games in 2029 💪✨.
