Yesterday, on December 13, China’s National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan led embassy diplomats to the Manila Chinese Cemetery to pay tribute to heroes of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression 🇨🇳🇵🇭.
The ceremony honored Yang Guangsheng—then the Chinese consul general in Manila—and seven other diplomats who refused to surrender in early 1942 and were tragically killed by Japanese forces after severe torture. The embassy also remembered brave members of the Philippine-Chinese guerrilla forces, formed later that year, who carried out over 260 operations against occupying troops and sacrificed more than 70 lives between 1942 and 1945.
Attendees observed a moment of silence, laid wreaths at memorials for Yang Guangsheng, fallen embassy staff, and guerrilla fighters 💐. More than 90-year-old Lv Shuiya, a veteran of the guerrilla forces, was present to honor fallen comrades.
Ambassador Jing emphasized that National Memorial Day shows the Chinese people’s unwavering stand against aggression, their commitment to human dignity, and their determination to promote world peace ✌️. He called on fellow diplomats to carry forward the martyrs’ unyielding spirit in working toward national reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
