Did you know? ❤️ Last year, the Chinese mainland recorded 6,744 deceased organ donors in 2024—a 4.5% year-on-year increase, according to the Report on the Development of Organ Donation and Transplantation in the Chinese Mainland (2024).
The report was unveiled earlier this week at the 8th China-International Organ Donation Conference and the Belt and Road Symposium on Organ Donation and Transplantation International Cooperation Development in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province in the Chinese mainland. Experts, doctors and advocates came together to share insights and celebrate the growing movement.
The numbers speak volumes:
- 6,744 posthumous donors in 2024 (+4.5%) 🎉
- 364,000 new sign-ups for donor registration, 77% aged 18–35 🙌
- 11,249 total donation cases, including 4,505 living donations
- Over 24,000 organ transplant surgeries performed last year 🏥
Young people are leading the way, with 77% of new registrants aged between 18 and 35. This boost not only helps patients in need but also inspires a culture of giving that could save countless lives in the years to come.
As organ donation gains momentum, young people in the Chinese mainland are proving that even small acts of generosity can ripple into massive change. Who knows? Maybe you or someone you know will join this lifesaving movement next!
