Chinese mainland & Germany vow to defend WTO-based free trade

🗓️ This Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met in Beijing with visiting German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to chart a path forward for free trade and a rules-based multilateral system 🤝🌐

Wang urged the two sides to strengthen support for free trade and “safeguard the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core,” aiming to counter rising global uncertainties. He welcomed German businesses to dive into the new opportunities under the Chinese mainland’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), blending traditional strengths with fresh, emerging sectors for win–win results 🚀

Highlighting smooth supply chains as a must, Wang detailed steps in rare earth licensing and export exemptions for Nexperia chips, meant to keep global industries humming. He also called on the Dutch government to dial back its administrative hurdles, so the semiconductor pipeline stays sturdy and the auto and consumer goods markets stay on track 🔧💡

Minister Wadephul affirmed Germany’s commitment to deepening dialogue and tackling differences head–on. He praised the move toward a universal rare earth licensing system and pledged that Germany will play an active part in resolving the Nexperia issue, aiming for an early, sustainable fix 🔍⚙️
