On Monday, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun urged Japan to immediately stop what it calls "dangerous harassment" of its regular maritime and air drills. China says these exercises fully comply with international law and are conducted professionally.
Guo pointed out that it's standard practice for carrier-based aircraft worldwide to activate search radars during flight training, ensuring safety. He stressed that no rules were broken during China's drills.
According to China, the real issue began when a Japanese fighter jet allegedly entered China's training zone, conducting close-in reconnaissance and interference. Beijing claims that Japan then blamed China, spreading false accusations.
"Japan is distorting the facts, shifting blame, and misleading the international community," Guo said, announcing that China has lodged stern representations with Tokyo.
China also denounced Tokyo for hyping up security tensions "at this sensitive moment" with ulterior motives, calling on Japan to drop irresponsible political manipulation.
