Yesterday at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, Beijing Guoan lit up the pitch with a spectacular display as Fabio Abreu scored a jaw-dropping hat trick to lead the team to a 3-0 victory over Henan. It’s the capital club’s first Chinese Football Association Cup title since 2018 — and their fifth overall 🎉⚽
With over 40,000 fans roaring in the stands (and more than 20,000 wearing Henan colors), the atmosphere was electric. Abreu opened the scoring in the 17th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound after Henan goalkeeper Wang Guoming parried an initial shot. The Angolan striker didn’t let up, converting a penalty just before halftime to make it 2-0.
The second half turned intense, with tackles flying and tempers flaring. Right before full time, a stoppage-time penalty opportunity gave Abreu his chance at glory. Although his first spot-kick was saved, the referee ordered a retake for the keeper’s early movement — and Abreu coolly slotted in the rebound to complete his trio of goals and seal the trophy.
Abreu, who’s been unstoppable this season and wrapped up the league’s top scorer title, said: "I had never scored against Henan before, but today that changed. We came here determined to win and now we’re bringing this trophy back to Beijing to celebrate with our fans!" 🏆👟
On the other side, Henan midfielder Wang Shangyuan admitted the loss stung: "We knew it would be tough, but making it to the final after 31 years was special. Our supporters gave us everything, and we’ll push harder next season."
This win adds momentum for Beijing Guoan as they look to finish the season strong in the Chinese Super League. For young fans and aspiring footballers, Abreu’s performance is a reminder that big dreams and relentless effort can lead to headline-making moments!
