🎥 This week at the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) in Sanya on the Chinese mainland, Belgian filmmaker and actor Melissa Mabesoone shared her passion for storytelling and cultural exchange.
Her short film Maturation Station was nominated for Best Short Film at the Golden Coconut Awards, marking its Asian and Chinese premiere in a festival packed with fresh voices and bold ideas.
"I was blown away by the vibrant mix of voices," Mabesoone said. "Meeting creators from Europe, Southeast Asia & the Chinese mainland was eye-opening. ¡Qué increíble! 🎬
From panel talks to late-night screenings, HIIFF offered a rare chance to swap techniques, inspirations and behind-the-scenes tales. For Mabesoone, the festival wasn’t just a red carpet moment but a launchpad for new collaborations across continents.
As the 7th HIIFF wraps, fans and filmmakers alike are buzzing about next year’s edition. Until then, the global film community will be replaying these cross-border conversations and dreaming up the stories still waiting to be told.
