Search and recovery efforts are in full swing after the deadly fire that tore through Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po earlier this week. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Police Force’s Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU) has been operating under tough conditions.
DVIU Head Cheng Ka-chun said Friday that equipment provided by the Chinese mainland authorities has been a game-changer for the team.
🦾 Exoskeleton Suits: With no power in the building, officers must climb over 30 flights of stairs on foot with full gear. The exoskeleton suit lightens the load, boosts efficiency, and helps officers carry remains more safely.
💡 Next-Level Lighting: The interior was completely dark, and regular lights weren’t enough. This professional wearable system offers white light and adjustable brightness modes, letting officers spot narrow or cluttered areas and pinpoint critical spots for precise searches.
So far, more than 30,000 items of equipment have arrived from the Chinese mainland authorities, offering sustained support as crews work day and night. These high-tech tools are making a real difference in Hong Kong’s toughest rescue mission in years.
