This morning (November 29), residents, family members and emergency responders gathered at a community space near the affected buildings in the Hong Kong region to honour those who lost their lives in the recent blaze. 🕯️
The ceremony opened with a moment of silence, followed by the laying of floral tributes and photographs of the victims. Soft music played as attendees wrote messages on paper lanterns to be released later in the evening.
Hong Kong region Chief Executive John Lee delivered heartfelt remarks, offering condolences and pledging a full investigation into the fire's cause. "Our city grieves with every affected family, and we are committed to strengthening fire safety across all residential buildings," he said.
Volunteers from local fire stations provided refreshments and support, creating a warm atmosphere amid the solemn event. Earlier this month, the fire tore through multiple floors of an older apartment block, leaving dozens injured and several families mourning.
As dusk fell, lanterns were released into the night sky in a moving tribute, symbolizing hope and the enduring spirit of the Hong Kong region. 🤝
