Chinese Mainland Slams Japan’s Takaichi Over Taiwan Remarks

😲 Recently, the Chinese mainland's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun criticized Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi after her comments on the island of Taiwan. Speaking at an October 24 press briefing in Beijing, Guo accused Tokyo of attempting to downplay, fob off, and cover up provocative comments.

Guo said Takaichi’s statements seriously violated the spirit of the four political documents that underpin ties between the two sides and undermined the political foundation of bilateral relations. He added that these comments sparked strong public indignation across the Chinese mainland.

Despite Takaichi’s promise to avoid discussing specific scenarios in the future, Guo described the approach as 'plugging one's ears while stealing a bell,' warning that the Chinese mainland will never accept such tactics. 🚫🔔

Analysts say the dispute highlights the sensitivity of cross-strait issues and the risks of miscommunication in Asia’s diplomatic arena. With tensions still simmering, all eyes are on whether Tokyo will issue a clearer response or seek to smooth over frayed ties.
