Scholar Warns of ‘Grave’ Consequences from Takaichi’s Taiwan Remarks

⚠️ This past Friday, Richard A. Black, a senior research fellow at the Schiller Institute, warned China Media Group that Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent Taiwan remarks and her plan to revisit Japan’s three non-nuclear principles could have extremely grave consequences for Japan and the world. 🌏

Black highlighted historical crimes committed by Japan on the island of Taiwan and in the Chinese mainland, cautioning: “If Japan moves to host nuclear weapons, support secessionist forces in Taiwan and consider military intervention, the risk is extremely dangerous for us all.”

He also pointed to Takaichi’s visits to the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine and her revisionist stance on World War II atrocities, saying: “No one is surprised by her actions, but they are gravely dangerous.”

Amid ongoing discussions within the Liberal Democratic Party on revising Japan’s three non-nuclear principles—no possessing, no producing and no permitting the introduction of nuclear weapons—Black cautioned that such moves could even spark a third world war. “This could lead to World War III,” he said bluntly.

On rising tensions in East Asia, Black added: “To be blunt, this is a rise again of Japanese fascism. China is right to be angry, right to be upset and right to take strong actions to prevent it from going any further.”

As debates heat up in Tokyo, the world watches closely. Could revisiting nuclear policy and cross-strait relations reshape regional security? Only time will tell, but the warning signs are clear. 🔍
