Hotline Beijing Documentary Wins Hearts in Russia and Ethiopia

Beijing’s new documentary 🎥 “Hotline Beijing” made waves abroad with special screenings in St. Petersburg and Addis Ababa this month. Organized by China Media Group’s Film and TV Translation & Production Center, these events spotlight the city’s 12345 public service hotline—a direct line for residents to raise concerns or feedback.

The St. Petersburg session on November 18 brought together over 30 political, academic, and cultural figures. A few days later, on November 21 in Addis Ababa, around 150 guests—including officials, media pros, staff, and students—gathered at the Confucius Institute at Addis Ababa University.

The documentary dives into seven real-life stories to show how Beijing handles citizen requests with a people-centered, mega-city management approach. Viewers in Russia praised the hotline as a hands-on problem-solver and a glimpse of Chinese wisdom. In Ethiopia, attendees like university president Samuel Kifle highlighted its global appeal amid rapid urban growth, calling it a living case study of theory meeting practice.

From highlighting that no concern is too small to emphasizing high-level government response, “Hotline Beijing” offers inspiring lessons for cities worldwide. 🌍✈️
