China & Vietnam Chart Green Growth in Honghe River Basin Week

Last Friday, on November 21, 2025, the China–Vietnam Cooperation Week for the Honghe River Basin kicked off in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, in southwest China's Yunnan Province. This lively event brought together officials, researchers, and entrepreneurs from the China–Vietnam Economic Corridor and communities along the 1,280-kilometer Honghe River 🌊.

The river, which springs from the Ailao Mountains and meanders into northern Vietnam’s Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces, has nurtured rice-growing cultures for thousands of years. Today, it still binds the people of both countries in shared history and fresh opportunities 🌱.

Over the week, participants dived into:

  • Green economic development: exploring sustainable farming and eco-friendly industries
  • Digital transformation: sharing best practices in smart agriculture and e-commerce 📱
  • Water resource protection: coordinating river management to tackle climate challenges
  • Cultural and ecological tourism: designing routes that highlight local heritage and natural beauty ✈️

Luo Ping, governor of Honghe Prefecture, highlighted the “door-to-door, neighbor-to-neighbor” advantage that positions the region at the forefront of local China–Vietnam cooperation 🤝. Hoang Minh Son, Vietnam’s consul general in Kunming, added that the initiative offers a valuable platform for deepening exchanges and learning from each other.

From green growth to digital innovation, the Honghe River Basin Initiative showcases a shared vision for a vibrant, connected future. Stay tuned as this cross-border journey unfolds! 🚀
