China urges Japan to retract Taiwan remarks to boost ties

🌐 On Friday, November 21, 2025, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning urged Japan to retract its recent erroneous remarks on the Taiwan region if Tokyo truly wants to build a stable, mutually beneficial strategic relationship with China.

Mao Ning's comments came after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that Japan’s willingness to develop a strategic relationship of mutual benefit with China remains unchanged. However, Mao stressed that words must be backed by action.

“If Japan truly wants to develop the China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit and build constructive and stable bilateral ties fit for the new era,” Mao said, “it should abide by the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, immediately retract the recent erroneous remarks on the Taiwan region, and take practical steps to honor its commitments to China.”

These “four political documents” refer to key agreements signed since diplomatic ties were established in 1972, which have served as the backbone of cooperation on trade, security, and cultural exchanges. 🤝

For now, all eyes are on Tokyo’s next move: will Japan issue a formal retraction, or will tensions simmer on as both sides navigate the tricky waters of regional diplomacy? Stay tuned for updates! 🔍
