China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday voiced strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to comments made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about the Taiwan region 😮. Spokesperson Chen Binhua emphasized that there is only one China in the world and the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of it. He warned that Takaichi’s remarks seriously violate the one-China principle and interfere in China’s internal affairs.
At a regular press conference, Chen shared that the Chinese Foreign Ministry has lodged solemn representations and strong protests with the Japanese side 🇨🇳🇯🇵. He reminded audiences that during Japan’s 50 years of colonial rule, countless atrocities were committed in the Taiwan region. It was Chinese forces’ victory 80 years ago that ended Japan’s occupation and plunder of the island of Taiwan.
Chen urged Japan to deeply reflect on its wartime history, fully honor the one-China principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan, and keep its commitments on the Taiwan question. He also warned the Taiwan region’s Democratic Progressive Party authorities that attempts to rely on external forces to separate Taiwan from China are doomed to fail.
