12th Wuzhen Theater Festival Kicks Off with Global Acts

On October 16, the 12th Wuzhen Theater Festival burst onto the scene in the picturesque water town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, Chinese mainland, kicking off an 11-day showcase running through October 26. 🎭🌊

Under the theme 'fu yao' (swirling up or rising with vitality), this year’s edition brings 25 specially invited plays from 10 countries and regions, plus 18 exciting entries in the Emerging Theater Artists' Competition. You’ll also find lively dialogues, hands-on workshops, reading sessions and outdoor carnivals all around town.

One of the hottest tickets? Anthropolis–Marathon by Germany’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. This dynamic production weaves together five classic Greek myths into a theatrical marathon that’s sparking fresh East–West cultural conversations. 🤝🇩🇪🇨🇳

Since its debut in 2013, the festival has become a global hub for young theater creators to flex their creative muscles and share bold ideas—turning an ancient town into one giant stage where stories from around the world converge. 🌟

Whether you’re a drama geek, a culture chaser or just love that magical water-town vibe, the Wuzhen Theater Festival is where it’s at. Don’t miss out before it closes on October 26! 🔥
