At the United Nations General Assembly’s Fourth Committee debate, China’s deputy permanent representative, Geng Shuang, spotlighted a fresh perspective on decolonization: tackling the colonial mindset itself. 🌍✊
He noted that ending physical colonial rule isn’t enough; remnants of power politics and hegemony still roam free. It’s like hitting the reset button on a game server 🎮 – no more unfair boosts, everyone plays by the same rules. 🚀
Back in 1955, the UN General Assembly’s Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples sparked a wave of liberation. Today, more work remains: Geng urged support for a new resolution—International Day Against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations—to drive decolonization forward.
China also voiced backing for the 17 non-self-governing territories and their right to self-determination. Together with the international community, it aims to leverage the fourth international decade for the eradication of colonialism and accelerate real change.
On the Malvinas Islands issue, Geng emphasized peaceful negotiation under UN principles to reach a just and lasting solution. 🕊️
From lofty ideals to concrete actions, the message is clear: true global governance starts by shedding the old colonial hangover and embracing sovereign equality for all. 💪
