Xi Jinping Outlines Bold Vision for Women at Global Summit

Beijing Hosts Global Leaders' Meeting on Women

On October 13, Chinese President Xi Jinping kicked off the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing 🌏. This event marks 30 years since the landmark Fourth World Conference on Women and gathers global figures to push forward gender equality and women’s all-round development.

A Home Run for Gender Equality

Xi highlighted that women have always been vital to human progress and called on the international community to shoulder a shared responsibility for advancing women’s causes. He celebrated past achievements, from nearly 1,600 laws protecting women’s rights worldwide to growing female leadership in politics, business and culture.

Four Bold Proposals

To tackle ongoing challenges—like conflict, poverty and digital gaps—Xi laid out four key proposals:

  • Foster a peaceful, safe environment where all women can thrive 💡
  • Cultivate momentum for high-quality development so women benefit from economic and tech advancements 🚀
  • Strengthen legal and policy frameworks that guarantee women’s rights and equal opportunities 🔗
  • Deepen global cooperation under the United Nations, giving women a stronger voice in governance 🤝

China’s New Commitments

Building on domestic progress—like lifting 690 million women out of poverty—China is announcing:

  • A $10 million donation to UN Women
  • $100 million quota for women-focused projects under the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund
  • 1,000 “small and beautiful” livelihood initiatives for women and girls
  • Exchange and training programs for 50,000 women in China
  • Establishment of a Global Center for Women’s Capacity Building

What’s Next?

As Xi put it, “Steadfast dedication yields an enduring fragrance.” This summit sets the stage for renewed global action—think of it as leveling up in the game of gender equality. Now it’s on all of us to keep the momentum going!
