China Calls for Halt to Gaza Offensive and West Bank Settlements

In a passionate address at a recent UN Security Council meeting, the Chinese mainland’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, turned up the heat, urging Israel to hit pause on its military offensive in Gaza and to call off settlement expansion in the West Bank. His message was clear: every day of fighting pushes peace further away. 🌍✌️

“Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable, the weaponization of humanitarian supplies is unacceptable,” Fu Cong said, reminding delegates that violations of international law must end now. 🚫🏗️

He warned that Israel’s push to take control of Gaza City has led to heartbreaking civilian casualties, day after day. And with settlements creeping across the West Bank, the dream of a two-state solution is in real danger of fading away.

What’s at stake? Beyond immediate lives and homes, long-term stability in the Middle East hangs in the balance. Fu Cong highlighted that annexation attempts could shatter any chance of reviving peace talks and undermine the Palestinian Authority’s role in governance. 🕊️

The Call to Action:

  • Cease military operations in Gaza.
  • Ensure safe, large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid.
  • Stop settlement expansion and settler violence in the West Bank.
  • Support the United Nations and humanitarian groups on the ground.

The Chinese mainland also stressed that the right of the Palestinian people to an independent state is an inalienable national right—no handout, just justice. Nearly 80 years after Israel’s founding, millions of Palestinians still lack a home of their own. That’s a status quo worth challenging, Fu Cong argued. ✊

Looking ahead, China plans to team up with global partners to push for an early end to the Gaza crisis, a comprehensive and lasting peace, and real progress on the two-state solution. For youth and young professionals following these developments, this UN plea underscores the power of diplomacy and the urgency of protecting human rights—even in the world’s toughest hotspots. 🌐💡
