Navigating Alzheimer’s with Love: Early Screening Matters

Hey amigos! This September is World Alzheimer’s Month, a time when everyone shines a light on a condition that slowly affects memory, thinking skills, and daily life. 💭

The World Health Organization estimates 57 million people live with dementia worldwide, and Alzheimer’s disease may account for 60–70% of those cases. With no cure yet, early action is our best move. 🚀

Professor Guo Yi, principal investigator at Shenzhen Bay Laboratory and lead expert at the Brain Health Program, stresses the power of early screening. While normal aging brings some forgetfulness, Alzheimer’s often speeds ahead. Catching it in the mild cognitive impairment (MCI) phase gives us the greatest chance to slow it down. 🕵️‍♀️

In the Chinese mainland, over 16 million people face Alzheimer’s and other dementias, according to a 2024 report. To tackle this challenge, 15 institutions—including the National Health Commission and the National Development and Reform Commission—launched a national action plan. By 2030, they aim to build a full system covering prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and care. 🎯

What can you do now? Talk openly about brain health with family, encourage regular checkups, keep your mind sharp with puzzles or new hobbies, stay social, and fuel up on a balanced diet. Small steps can make a big impact. 💪🧩

Your brain is your superpower—let’s protect it together! ❤️
