North Pacific Coast Guards Wrap Up Shanghai Cooperation Forum

Ever wondered how coast guards from across the Pacific join forces to keep our seas safe? Last week, Shanghai hosted the week-long North Pacific Coast Guard Forum, where maritime heroes from the Canadian Coast Guard, the Japan Coast Guard, the South Korea Coast Guard, the United States Coast Guard, the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, and the China Coast Guard came together like an oceanic Avengers team! 🌊🛡️

The agenda was all about action: fighting transnational crimes such as illegal migration and drug trafficking, boosting bilateral and multilateral law enforcement cooperation, and sharing crucial info across agencies. Over 80 senior officials dived deep into practical plans to safeguard shipping lanes and protect marine environments.

Highlights included speeches from Zhang Yahong, vice mayor of Shanghai, and Counselor Liu Qian from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was the first in-person meeting of these six agencies since 2020, marking a milestone for cross-regional collaboration.

By the end of the forum, participants had reached a preliminary consensus on next year’s cooperation plan and celebrated with a ceremonial handover of the forum flag to the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, who will host the next gathering. 🤝

For travelers, investors, and students alike, this forum signals stronger maritime security and a commitment to protect our oceans together. Stay tuned for more waves of collaboration!
