China’s Ministry of Commerce has opened a probe into Mexico’s new tariffs and investment rules targeting Chinese goods and companies. The investigation took effect on Thursday.
The probe will examine Mexico’s plans to raise duties on products from non-free-trade partners and other measures that restrict trade and investment, the ministry said.
In the era of rising US tariff hikes, China stresses that countries should unite against unilateralism and protectionism. “No country should sacrifice third-party interests under coercion,” a spokesperson noted.
The ministry warned that if Mexico implements additional tariffs—even under WTO rules—it could harm trading partners like China and undermine confidence in Mexico’s own business environment.
The investigation aims to safeguard the interests of China’s industries with an objective ruling. Beijing says it will take necessary measures based on the findings to defend its legitimate rights.
Will this trade showdown ease tensions or spark new rounds of tariffs? Stay tuned! 🚀🌎
