On the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Chinese premier Li Qiang met with Annalena Baerbock, president of the UNGA session, to discuss reforms for a more effective and pragmatic UN. 🌐
Facing a new era of turbulence and transformation, Li highlighted that the UN’s role is more vital than ever. He backed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative as a way to help the UN deliver on its three pillars: peace, development, and human rights.
Premier Li said China is ready to strengthen coordination and communication with the UN and its members to implement the initiative, promote a just global governance system, and work toward a community with a shared future for humanity. 🤝
He also urged the UN to focus on emerging fields like artificial intelligence, cyberspace, polar regions, and outer space while taking into account the needs and proposals of many developing countries. 🚀💻
On the Taiwan question, at the core of China’s core interests, Li said he believes Baerbock and the UN will continue to uphold the one-China principle.
Baerbock praised China as a strong UN supporter and welcomed the global initiatives put forward by President Xi. She said the 80th UNGA session will strictly follow UNGA Resolution 2758 and the one-China principle as it advances the theme better together for peace, development, and human rights. ✨
